Um prédio construído nos finais
dos séc XIX foi reabilitado pelo arquitecto Jorge Mealha que teve como
objectivo principal tentar preservar a maior quantidade possível de elementos
estruturais do edifício, desde pavimentos a paredes. Com o redesenhar do
interior edifício resulta a criação de oito apartamentos, dois em duplex.
A escada principal em madeira é
mantida o que permite uma maior iluminação natural. Acho que o desenho da
escada e o contraste entre a madeira e o branco dão uma imagem muito forte que
simboliza a união entre a construção do século XIX e a construção actual.
A building constructed in the late nineteenth century was restored by
architect Jorge Mealha that had as main objective try to preserve the maximum
amount of structural elements of the building, from floors to walls. With the redesign
of the interior building result the creation of eight apartments, two of them
in duplex.
The main staircase in wood is maintained which allows a greater natural light. I think the design of the ladder and the contrast between the wood and white give a very strong image that symbolizes the union between the construction of the nineteenth century and the present building.
